freefall

Moving away from the existing text book based, authoritative schooling systems, Freefall is based on an idea of letting children enjoy learning by free play, interaction with children of other age groups, immersion in nature and participation in adult activities/work. With very little adult control over their choices, the space lets them learn by experience, experiment, trial and error and independent observations of nature and human behavior. These observations are expressed through voluntary community sharing of information, story song and rituals. The teacher are the respected sources of wisdom and practical knowledge. They are the guiding system for the child to move to the next step in his discovery. It could be any one who is part of the child’s environment.

My role as a communication designer was to help design an identity system which reflected these values. Through the research we were able to find out how Play is the work of children. It consists of those activities performed for self-amusement that have behavioral, social, and psychomotor rewards. Through play children learn about shapes, colors, cause and effect, and themselves. Besides cognitive thinking, play helps the child learn social and psychomotor skills. It is a way of communicating joy, fear , sorrow, and anxiety . Play reinforces the child’s growth and development. As a result it became a mandatory that we have play as the major part in our identity.
